Mark Hein, a poet and painter, began making art on a fog-swept hill in San Francisco. After traveling the world, raising a family, and working as a teacher, journalist, and psychotherapist, he makes art in a wooded canyon in Los Angeles.
"A Japanese brush painting course on public TV when I was 10 got me started... but I did little except occasional cartoons until my 50s, when I took drawing and painting classes at a local college. Then a friend challenged me to draw or paint something every day, and I haven't stopped yet."
